About Charlotte Black-Jewish Alliance (CBJA)
The Charlotte Black-Jewish Alliance (CBJA) is a collaborative initiative led by the Stan Greenspon Holocaust and Social Justice Education Center at Queens University of Charlotte in partnership with Johnson C. Smith University. Launched in 2021, the CBJA builds mutual understanding, relationships, and solidarity between Black and Jewish communities in Charlotte. The initiative runs two key tracks: a 12-month Leadership Track for emerging Black and Jewish leaders (ages 25–40) featuring monthly meetings and a civil rights pilgrimage; and a Community Track open to all, offering events such as the Soul Food Shabbat and social justice programming. CBJA is guided by Rabbi Judy Schindler, Dr. Melvin Herring, and Dr. Cindy Kistenberg and is supported by local community organizations including Temple Beth El and the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.
